Detective secures harsh sentences

Long hours of Honeydew Police Station detectives put criminals behind bars.

Honeydew Detective Services secured what spokesperson of the station Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs described as ”two very good sentences”.

In the first case, four of the suspects, who were arrested for business robbery, were recently sentenced at Palm Ridge High Court.

The suspects were arrested for a robbery that occurred at NWJ Jewellery Store at Randridge Mall on 16 June 2012.

The suspects were charged with business robbery, possession of stolen property, hi-jacking and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

For these charges, two of the suspects received 40 years’ imprisonment; another was sentenced to 50 years in prison and the last one was sentenced to 55 years.

Another sentence secured by the detectives is for the robbery that happened at Pick ‘n Pay, Rock Cottage on 30 August 2012. Sentencing took place at the same court.

The four suspects arrested were charged with business robbery and possession of stolen property. Three of the suspects were sentenced to a total of 247 years in prison and the other one to 250 years.

The investigating officer in both cases was Detective Constable Andy Mankayi who is said to have worked tirelessly to make sure that the convicted criminals remain behind bars.
