Baby boy found dumped in veld

WILGEHEUWEL - A new-born baby was found dumped in a veld, wrapped in a red blanket.

WILGEHEUWEL – A new-born baby boy was found dumped in an open veld close to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital on 7 September.

According to spokesperson for Vital Med Ambulance Services Tania du Toit, the baby was discovered by the owner of a shop close to the veld.

“The shop owner found the little guy on the grass wrapped in a red blanket with the placenta and everything still attached,” Du Toit explained.

The shop owner then took the baby to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital.

Marketing manager for the hospital Glynis Krebser confirmed that the baby was brought to their hospital.

“[The baby weighs] a healthy 3kg. [He] was taken care of by our staff and has since been transferred to a place of safety,” said Kresber.

Du Toit confirmed that Vital Med Ambulance Service transported the baby to a place of safety but could not disclose the name of the place to protect the child.

Spokesperson for Honeydew Police Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs is still to comment on the matter.
