Weldridge Academy gears up for first ever debutant ball

ROODEPOORT— Welridge academy is looking forward to hosting its first annual debutant ball for its pupils, where a queen and king will be crowned at the end of the memorable evening.

Dozens of senior and intermediate pupils at the Welridge Academy are gearing up with their Sunday best for the first debutant ball on 6 September.

The event is also an opportunity to raise funds for the Grade 4 to 7 term for 2014.

Parents and family members are encouraged to purchase tickets for the event at the school’s front desk for R60, which includes snacks.

“We plan on making this a success, because we would like to host similar events in the future. The staff members brought up the idea of theball and I thought it was a great idea,” said Wlridge principal Janine Jourbert.

“We have so much talent here at the school. It has been very exciting to see the developments,” Joubert noted.

The formal dance will allow pupils the opportunity to interact with each other in a beautiful social setting away from the classroom or playground.

According to the events coordinator Valoshni Moodley, the debutants and their partners will first open the floor with a formal dance and afterward, everyone in attendance is welcome to bust a move.

“We are looking forward to Saturday’s event. At the moment everything is running smoothly and we are putting together an unforgettable show,” said Moodley.

“I have been in charge of choreographing the dances and arranging the décor, so it has been very exciting to watch the [pupils] put in the work and show off their skills,” he added.

Toward the end of the evening, a queen and two princesses will be crowned as well as a king and two princes for the most money raised overall.
