‘Take me home’

These loving and lovely adult cats and dogs need forever homes, says the Roodepoort SPCA.

Inspector Theo Mahube recently said several dogs and cats are ready to leave the nest.

These animal have been fed and groomed, and socialised and played with at the Roodepoort SPCA in Maraisburg, but what they really want, and need, are good forever homes.

Most animals that are above a certain age almost have reached the barrier of adoption, says SPCA manager Mandy Cattanach.

“They play just as well, can fit into your household and its culture and can protect you just as well, but people do not adopt adult animals,” a sad Cattanach says.

“Adult cats are almost never homed and it is very sad to see as most of our cats have loving and unique personalities.

“We give them all our love and care but they need families, they deserve them.”

Mahube is the epitome of love and care as he walks around and shows off his beloved adult animals to the record each one is petted, kept calm and talked to. Some of them even were named along the way, most of them having entering the SPCA as nameless, often emaciated and forlorn creatures.

“Many residents also have to give up their pets as they move into homes that are not pet-friendly,” says Mahube, “like in the case of Duke and Boris”. The pair are well-fed and looking for their final home.
