Crime levels drop in FNQB area

ROODEPOORT - Crime levels drop but residents need to stay aware of the surroundings says Ward 86 councillor Steve Kotzé.

Community members from Flora Glen, Northcliff, Quellerina and Bergbron (FNQB) held their monthly meeting at Hoërskool Die Burger on 27 August. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss crime and how it affected residents in the area. The meeting was opened by the FNQB chairperson Bruno Ragianti who thanked everyone for taking time to attend the meeting, he then gave the floor to Warrant Officer Riaan van den Berg from Florida Police Station. “Crime in the FNQB area has lowered a bit since the spike in July and we want to thank the residents and the security companies for assisting the police on a daily basis.” He added that residents in the area need to be aware of two suspicious vehicles that are driving around in the area. “The first reported vehicle that residents should be on the lookout for is a white Volkswagen Golf with three bravo males in it and a Gold Mercedes-Benz with four bravo males in it. If these vehicles are spotted to be roaming around your suburb you need to be in contact with the police.”

Ward 86 councillor Steve Kotzé was also present at the meeting and he took up the plight of the residents about service delivery issues. One of the problems experienced by residents was the implementation of the smart meters in their areas. “I have received complaints that the sim-cards in certain smart meters have already been stolen out of these devices. I have logged the issues with the City and I suspect these sim-cards were stolen by people who must have had the knowledge to know how to open these devices.”

He added that the smart meter problems continued as five workers, who pretended to be smart meter readers, almost broke into a house in the area. “We were in the area because a domestic worker spotted these men and immediately called Best Secure and they pitched up in time to handle the situation.”

Ragianti concluded and thanked Louis Grobler from Best Secure for all his involvement in the area and his expertise.

“I want to urge residents to attend the next FNQB meeting on 24 September to be held at Hoërskool Die Burger at 7pm,” Ragianti concluded.
