The world seems to be upside down

Aerial dance seems to be the new trend.

Aerial dance seems to be the new trend in how to get fit whist having fun. Sky Dance Studio seems to be turning the world upside down.

Sky Dance Studio, in collaboration with Visions Gymnastics, offers adult classes in aerial dance as well as performances for functions. Inspired by Sia’s new song Chandelier they recently provided an aerial champagne pour for the Jacaranda FM Good Morning Angels charity high tea, hanging upside down underneath a chandelier.

The event took place on 31 July at Velmore Hotel and Spa and raised funds for the Good Morning Angels charity, run throughout the year by the Jacaranda FM Complimentary Breakfast team. Patrons of the event had an opportunity to buy a glass of Graham Beck champagne, poured for them by one of Sky Dance Studio’s upside down aerialists. Each glass was numbered and near the end of the show, a draw was held where one lucky champagne glass holder walked away with a sponsored Arthur Kaplan diamond.

Sky Dance Studio’s goal is not only to provide memorable entertainment for distinctive events, but to share this inspiring dance form with adults from all walks of life. Offering classes at Visions Gymnastics at Hillfox Power Centre, their goal is to create a fun, inclusive exercise space where women and men can build strength and fitness in the air. Offering classes in aerial silks, lyra and static trapeze, they succeed in bringing something different to those who are bored with their current exercise options.

Everyone is encouraged to show their newly found skills with the annual Student Showcase. The event will be held at the Roodepoort Theatre on 21 September at 3pm and will include performances by teachers and students on silks, lyra and trapeze, as well as guest performances from other dance disciplines. Planned as a

matinee show, this showcase is a wonderful opportunity for the family to go watch together.
