For safety is not a gadget but a state of mind

It is always easier to identify suspicious people and vehicles.

A domestic workers’ and gardeners’ forum was held at the Rainbow FM properties in Florida on 23 August.

The forum, which is held quarterly, brings together domestic workers and gardeners around the Florida area to be educated them on safety at their work place. One of the discussions at the forum included tips on avoiding being a victim of a house robbery. Colonel Marite of the SAPS emphasised the fact that domestic workers and gardeners should at all times be vigilant.

“It is always easier to identify suspicious people and vehicles,” said Marite. Guests were also reminded that not all criminals are amateurs. Some come dressed as priests so as to camouflage what they are there for. Some come unannounced and pretend to have spoken to the home owner.

Since Spring is around the corner and children will desire swimming, forum organisers invited Nomthandazo Mokoena from the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services to come educate guests on CPR and choking rescue. “I am very passionate about bettering domestic workers,” said founder of the forum Ruth Kloppers.
