Another postponement for Brickz rape case

HONEYDEW— The rape case of Kwaito singer Sipho "Brickz" Ndlovu hit another speed bump following a delay from the national director of Public Prosecutions.

Kwaito musician Sipho Charles Ndlovu, popularly known as Brickz, made a brief appearance at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on 26 August for the alleged rape of a teenager last year.

The star’s newly-appointed lawyer Dumisane Mabunda asked that the matter be postponed to 18 September due to a delay from the State regarding a request that was sent to the National Director of Public Prosecutions on 10 August.

“The defence is ready to go ahead with the case, the delay is actually coming from the State and we were told that there would be a three- week delay, hence we ask for a postponement,” reiterated Mabunda.

Mabunda, who took over the case on 1 August, previously said the case against his client is weak and filled with holes.

The Sweety My Baby hitmaker is accused of raping a 17-year-old girl at his home in Honeydew in March 2013, although the matter was only reported in October.

Ndlovu was released on R50 000 bail in December, when his lawyer at the time took the matter to the High Court after unsuccessful attempts at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.
