King’s School holds inauguration for newly-elected prefects

POORTVIEW - Prefects pledge to serve the school and their community in 2015.

King’s School West Rand held an inauguration for their prefects on 22 August.

Marketing officer at the school Bronwyn Barnard said the process to become a prefect is a strenuous effort as they have to participate in a public debate to convince their fellow pupils and teachers to vote for them.

“The speeches were quite interesting and the pupils surprised us with their communication skills,” said Barnard.

“All of the Grade 11s were invited to apply for the prefect positions and the pupils who decided to go forward with the process received an application pack that they had to complete. This contained information relating to their time at the school, motivation why they would make a good prefect, what activities they have been involved in at the school and the community service initiatives they have been involved in,” she added.

After all this was taken into consideration, the Grade 8 to 12 pupils and teachers had a chance to vote for the prefects that they thought would do the best job of being a leader at the school.

The following pupils were elected as prefects: Michael James, Dylan Koopman, Miguel Lambert, Bianca Marais, Tshepang Mashao, Saskia Meadows, Resego Molope, Kayleigh Penniken, Chloe Raftesath and Gomolemo Tseladimitloa.

“The elected head girl for 2015 was Destiny Agnew and the head boy Humarno Schoonwinkel. The deputy head boy position went to Matthew Petersen and Jaydeen Strydom was elected as deputy head girl.”

She added that each prefect had to sign a pledge of commitment where they promise to serve the school and their community.
