Gauteng marathon returns

The Gauteng Marathon is back. The race, which was launched in 2012, is bigger, better and promises to excite both professionals and running enthusiasts.The marathon takes place on Sunday 7 September and will feature 42,2km, 21.1km and 10km routes. The 42,2km race will start at the Civic Centre in Krugersdorp, while the 21,1km race will start at Cecil Payne in Maraisburg. The 10km race will start at the Johannesburg Stadium, which will be where all three races end. There will be live entertainment throughout the day, as well as childcare facilities and food stalls to cater for participants, and their friends and families who come out to support them.

MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Molebatsi Bopape says, “We are very excited to be hosting the Gauteng Marathon for the third time. This marathon boasts one of the largest purses in Africa, with prize money totalling R1,4 million, which presents a fantastic opportunity for professionals to rise to the challenge.”
