Spring is in the air and runners on the West Rand have started dusting off their running shoes. After much organising, Saturday 23 August will see a 10km race and 5km fun run being held at Clearwater Mall. Start time of the race is 7am.
This event, which has been sanctioned by Central Gauteng Athletics, is important in raising the public profile of both the King’s School and the Panorama Running Club.
West Rand residents are advised to participate as either competitors or spectators in what promises to be an energetic and exciting day.
Runners who do not take part on the day are to take note that early morning training runs have started with Panorama Runners, working towards the 2015 Comrades marathon. “It is not just about the Comrades Marathon. Some members are aiming for 5km,10km and 21km personal bests,” says Shannon Moore, road captain of the club.
For new runners, 5km and 10km training programmes are available through the club. There is a lot of experience and support available from older club members for anybody who wants to try and achieve personal running goals.
