Five shooters to represents SA in Spain

Every second year the Muzzle Loading Association International Committee hosts the world short-range championship in the handgun, rifle and shotgun events.

With 36 countries from across the world competing, it is one of the biggest shooting event. This year, representing South Africa in Granada in Spain is Jacques Jansen van Vuuren who will be participating in the 50-metres off-hand position and the 50 metres large-bore military rifle.

Another marksman who will be representing South Africa is Clint Slabbert who will be participating in the 50 metres off-hand and 100 metres prone event in the free-rifle class. Slabbert participated in the 2008 world championships in Australia as a junior.

These two West Rand residents who have earned their full Protea colours will be joining another three South African shooters from the Western Cape in Spain.

The group will be leaving on 24 August and return on 8 September.

Jansen and Slabbert, who are both from the Transvaal Muzzle Loader Association will be shooting with rifles in the spirit of the original rifles dating back to the year 1860.

With South Africa taking 21 of 25 gold medals in the world long-range championships held in South Africa in 2013, Merwe van Rensburg, chairperson of the Black Powder Shooting Union of South Africa has confidence in this

group.

“Obviously we are proud of them and are very confident that they will bring back medals, “ says Van Rensburg.
