Sector 3 CPF has its eyes set on curbing crime

ROODEPOORT - The public meetings in Sector 3 heed results as residents are more aware of crime and how to report it to the police.

Following the previous CPF Sector 3 meeting, it was announced that the police are solving more cases per month.

“About 1 270 cases were reported during June and 527 went to court. That resulted in 275 convictions. This shows that there has been a slight improvement as crime has shifted to Sector 4 and to Cosmo City,” said CPF Sector 3 chairperson Daniel Smith.

“In a crime report – it was indicated that residential robberies, burglaries and theft out of motor vehicles were lower, (although still high)but shoplifting and driving under the influence went up,” Smith added.

“Another problem in the area is vagrants. The Metro Police promised to get social services involved in an effort to solve the vagrant problem.”

Issues of road safety were also addressed. Ward 97 councillor Jaco Engelbrecht reminded the public that a petition to install speed bumps on Fredenharry and Cascades roads has been handed to the Johannesburg Roads Agency. “We are still awaiting feedback from the roads agency about the speed bumps,” Engelbrecht said.

Smith added that there is also a problem at the intersection of Kruger Rand and Sovereign roads as motorists fail to stop at the three-way stop.

The next public meeting will take place on 13 August at 6.30pm at the Struben’s Valley Library. Public participation is very important as topics and problems that affect residents in the area are discussed.
