Equip your domestic worker against crime

"Keeping domestic workers and gardeners informed and equipped is our best practice against crime."

The On Florida Domestic Workers Forum and the Florida Police have joined forces to combat crime in the greater Florida community.

Over the past few months the forum has been successful in equipping domestic workers and garden staff to identify possible threats, handle suspicious events and possibly prevent criminal activities through vigilance and effective preventative techniques. Recent statistics show that more domestic and garden workers are targeted by housebreaking perpetrators.

“The Florida Police is a vital and much appreciated partner in this regard as they give their time and knowledge during the monthly informative sessions,” says member Caleb Finn.

Over and above crime prevention, the forum also focuses on other emergencies such as fire prevention as previously hosted by Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS).

“On Saturday 23 August at 10am our forum will host a further training session, where the police will update the workers on the latest crime occurrences in our area,” says Finn.

“With the swimming season around the corner, the session also will equip them with the skills necessary to prevent possible drownings.”

For this intervention, the Johannesburg EMS will be on hand to provide a CPR demonstration and lesson.

“The community is reminded that attendance of and participation in these forums are free of charge,” says Sjaas Reyneke, On Florida chairperson. Refreshments are served to all in attendance.
