National recruitment database improves teachers’ recruitment

JOBURG - The national recruitment database by the Department of Basic Education is making it possible for qualified teachers to find employment.

The department of Basic Education is hard at work to ensure the deployment of appropriately qualified teachers.

The Department has created The National Recruitment Database which is a national database of professionally qualified educators seeking employment in public schools.

Basic education’s spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga explained that the National Recruitment Database is one of the measures employed by DBE to tackle the delays experienced by qualified teachers to vacant post.

According to Mhlanga, the database has grown from 204 teachers in February 2013 to 2 400 teachers at the moment.

“We are encouraged by the response and we urge more teachers, who are qualified and currently not teaching, to register.”said Mhlanga. He added, “We have a shortage of teachers in public schools who can focus on African languages and we want to fill that gap,” he explained further, “all professionally qualified South African Educators are invited to still register to be added to the National Recruitment Database –this will increase their chances of getting employment and we will be able to locate areas that are suitable for them.”

Interested parties are encouraged to download the form, on the website ; complete it, attach certified copies of their qualifications and academic records and post or hand deliver it to the Department of Basic Education.
