As far back as the seventies, the intersection at Corlett Avenue and Ontdekkers Road has been an accident hot spot.
Everyone has a harrowing anecdote of how they narrowly either escaped an accident at the intersection or actually have been involved in one.
On 29 July from approximately 7.50am until 8.10am the record set up a camera at the intersection to see how dangerous it really is. Keep in mind that it was not even peak time when this stretch of road always is extremely busy in all directions. At that stage traffic volumes had decreased substantially.
The outcome once again proved that South African motorists have scant regard for traffic laws as at least seven infringements were counted in the 20 minutes. Most of them revolve around motorists turning either after the arrow on the traffic light has ceased to give them right of way or turning when the traffic light has long turned red.
Take note of the vehicles coming from the left of the screen wanting to turn right across Ontdekkers Road into Corlett Avenue as well as vehicles coming from the right of the screen (Corlett Avenue side) wanting to turn right into Ontdekkers Road.

maybe if they put arrows from ondekkers onto corllet we wont have to jump over when it goes red. it would make life allot easier to cross this intersection if there were arrows.
Surely the bulk of the traffic from the North would be using CR Swart to enter Ontdekkers?
That would make an arrow-less West turn quite sufficient.
No Point putting arrows up. Look at the 2 entrances to clear water mall. There are big white and black signs on top of the robots showing when to go and when not to go. And still motorist ignore them and drive over. Had a guy hooting and going crazy behind me. Because he don’t know that if the robot below the turn of arrow is red you have to wait.
Ek ry gereeld in Ondekers en draai regs in Corlette en het myself al skuldig gemaak aan die oortreeding! Daar is nie ‘n vekeerspyltie vir regs draai in Corlette se robort wat uit Ondekers uitdraai nie,maar wel uit Corlette in Ondekers wat ‘n regsdraai verkeerspyltie het en wat net flits vir 4sekondes (hoopeloos tekort).Ek het net een vraag:Hoe lank gaan jy by die verkeerslig staan as die aankomende verkeer wat in Ondekers oor Corlette beweeg,nie eers by die rooilig stop nie?Ns:Kyk na die einde van die video!
