Society for bank pensioners has lots to offer

A new and exciting way for bank pensioners to stay in contact with their previous colleagues and friends.

Bank pensioners on the West Rand have something new to add onto their social calendar.

The Financial Institutions Pensioner’s Society (Fips), previously known as the Bank Pensioner’s Society (BPS) is looking forward to welcoming new members to their West Rand Branch. Their aim is to assist pensioners from the financial sector to keep in touch with their colleagues and friends. Manna Fourie, Fips chairperson, says the Society was started in 1969 for pensioners from FNB and Standard Bank. His goals with the West Rand branch is to collate information on pensioners’ needs and channel their views.

“We carry their best interests at heart and want to be their voice in the bigger community,” Fourie says.

He hopes that pensioners in Roodepoort and Florida will join him in networking and identifying hardships among their fellows so that Fips can provide assistance.

“We want the community to know about the interests of this sector.

“We pensioners have years of experience and believe we still can contribute constructively to the financial sector despite having retired.

“Don’t let valuable insets go to waste.”

Fourie and Alice Ball, Fips West Rand secretary, are promoting social functions and friendly gatherings in the area.

“We are not a trade union but a society for pensioners, to stay active and informed,” said Ball.

Their next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 28 August at the Ridgecrest Family Church in Radiokop. Members will gather at 10am and R50 is payable at the door. RSVP by 18 August to Alice Ball by contacting her on 011 791 4827 or 083 253 7278 or via email at balletjies@telkomsa.net.
