Roodepoort CPF’s new exco takes up the challenge

The electoral AGM was well represented by the members of the four sectors.

The new executive committee of the Roodepoort Community Policing Forum (CPF) was announced recently at a meeting at Hoërskool Roodepoort.

The electoral AGM was well represented by the members of the four sectors. Roodepoort Police Station commander Brigadier Thandi Kupiso welcomed everyone and pointed out the importance of collaboration between the police and community members.

James Kumalo, the community public relations coordinator, followed up by explaining the role of the CPF and community neighbourhood watches. He highlighted the importance of neighbourhood watches regularly interacting with the CPF to raise security concerns or slow responses with the police. Attendees were reminded to conduct their voluntary services according to the CPF constitution.

“Residents should continue in their strive to serve their communities,” said advocate Jéan Berdou of the Honeydew cluster.

“They are the eyes and the ears of the police force.

“Of course they can’t be at every street corner but with the support of volunteers within a community, the crime rate definitely can be reduced.”

The eight newly elected executive committee members will be the communication channel between members with concerns and Kupiso. The CPF also is to ensure that they serve the various neighbourhood watches.

“A successful CPF will be effective and functional as well as proactive,” Kumalo later said.

Two members of each sector were elected to serve on the executive committee.
