Queen tribute show promises to be a big success

MULDERSDRIFT - The queen tribute show promises a combination of instruments and voices. will yo be there?

Rock lovers will be pleased to know that they have an opportunity to attend a Queen tribute show that will be held in Muldersdrift.

Queen is a world famous British rock band that shot to fame during the 1970s and continued with their hits until the early 1990s.

The silky-voiced lead singer of the band Freddy Mercury died in 1991, but the founder of Lulima Productions Lulu van der Walt saw it fit to arrange a Queen tribute show that will take place at Gardenworld on 7 September.

“What makes this show so special is that it will be an open air concert and the entire family can bring their picnic baskets and blankets, and come and enjoy a show unlike any other they have ever seen. The show is called The show must go on,” Van der Walt said.

She added that a symphony orchestra will play the famous Queen soundtracks.

“The orchestra combines various musicians from Johannesburg and Pretoria and they are called the Queen Orchestra. The very important rhythm section will comprise of David Klassen on drums, Denny Lalouette on bass, Keith Hutchinson on keyboards and Jethro Butow mastering Queen guitarist Brian May’s unique guitar solos and sound.”

Every orchestra needs a conductor and van der Walt arranged for Michael Hankinson to lead the orchestra.

“Hankinson now lives in the UK and he will fly down to South Africa specially to conduct this concert.

Van der Walt said the legendary band’s music is immediately identified by its unique choir sound.

“Johannesburg”s Top session singers such as Malie Kelly, Veronique and Bobby Louw will use their expertise to produce the choir parts synonymous with songs such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Bicycle, Killer Queen and many more.”

“Cito, a male vocalist who was part of Queen at the Ballet will join the ranks of the main vocalists on stage, together with Sibongile Mngoma, who will sing the female part in the popular Barcelona and The Fallen Priest duets.” She added that soloist and Little Falls resident Timothy Moloi will also form part of the line up.

Tickets for the show are available at Computicket, and if anyone wants more info on the show they can feel free to give her a call.
