Potjies and fun in Muldersdrift

Rocci's Potjiekos Competition attended with great team spirit and in pursuit of a lot of fun.

The potjies were but a backdrop to the fun had at Rocci’s Potjiekos Competition at Misty Hills Country Hotel last Friday (25 July).

Although the reason for different companies getting together and socialising on Friday, the actual potjiekos competition took a backseat to networking, entertainment and other fun activities. Leon Graham served as MC and entertained the masses.

The annual potjiekos competition was attended by around 200 people throughout the day. At least 25 potjies were prepared for judging in the afternoon. Rocci appointed two executive judges, one of which was celebrity chef Griff from Atlanta, USA, to decide on the best potjie. In the end Kia Motors won.

Among the companies local charity organisations also had stalls at the Misty Hills lapa. Cansa West Rand and Westview Clinic represented Roodepoort welfare work. Each company registered a team with a chef and had to decorate their stall according to a theme of their choosing. The record found a coke cartel complete with a corpse and a Jack Parow-lookalike at the event but also more serious themes, like the “Gatvol” display at the IC Auto Roodepoort stall. Pierre de Lange displayed white crosses at their stall, similar to those in remembrance of farm murders that made headlines recently. De Lange said that this was to raise awareness of the high rate of violent crimes in South Africa, and that it was put up in memory of hijacking victim Taegrin Morris (4).

Rocci manager Isabel Janse van Rensburg said this year’s competition was one to be remembered.

“We witnessed a lot of heart and soul put into the food and efforts here, but entrepreneurs also had the opportunity to promote their brands while having fun.”

Rocci thanks their two big sponsors, Bestsure and Auto & General.
