Parolee allegedly stabs wife to death

RANDPARK RIDGE - Axe murderer who was out on parole kills his wife in their house in Randburg.

A man out on parole allegedly stabbed his wife to death in the early morning hours on 23 July.

According to Vital Med spokesperson Tania du Toit, the incident happened inside the couple’s kitchen in Randpark Ridge.

“We estimated the time of death to around 2am on the same morning and when we arrived at around 7am we discovered that a 51-year-old woman was stabbed three times in her back and once in her arm,” Du Toit confirmed. She suspected that the husband, a 42-year-old man, killed his wife in the kitchen as he was the only suspect on site.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs confirmed that the husband was the main suspect.

She added that the man, who’s identity is known to the media, was out on parole after he served 15 years in prison for slaughtering his family with an axe in 1999.

“He appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on 25 July after a case of murder was opened by the police and it was found that he was mentally unstable after a district-surgeon indicated that he suffered from a mental disorder called schizophrenia.”

She also confirmed that the suspect applied for Legal Aid. “He is unable to apply for bail because the terms of his parole have been broken and he is a second-time offender, which also counts against him.”

Jacobs added that he will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court for a second time on 31 July.

“We are unable to release additional information about the murder as the Honeydew Detective Services are still busy with their investigation into the case.”
