Legae La Nnete gives back to the community

LITTLE FALLS - A local rehabilitation home for men dedicated Mandela Day to beautifying the community.

LITTLE FALLS – Mandela Day is about giving something back to the community and Legae La Nnete – a rehabilitation home for men – used their 67 minutes to uplift the community around them.

According to the home’s director Gordon Dewar, the group did something slightly different for Mandela Day.

“Normally during these days, various charities receive attention but we decided to do something that will help uplift our surrounding community.”

Dewar said the dam behind the Little Falls Spar is a place that community members use frequently to walk their dogs.

“The dam and the field surrounding it were in need of a clean up and we took it upon ourselves to tidy this area.”

The group worked on the dam last year, but it was time to maintain the area a bit.

“Last year we installed a small dam wall to help with the down-run of the water. Because of all of the rubbish in and around the dam, this area tends to be filled and we removed the rubbish out of the dam.”

Dewar said one of the other problems is erosion caused by the water as it runs down the dam.

“To stop this, we filled the ground at the bottom of the wall with concrete blocks and rocks that will make the structure more stable.”

He added that everyone was willing to take 67 minutes out of their day to work on the project.

“I want to thank each of the men from the home that helped out with this project to beautify the area.”
