Open Learning Group gives its time on Mandela Day

WELTEVREDEN PARK – The Open Learning Group shared some song and dance in Soweto as part of its Mandela Day initiative.

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Mandela Day was an international sensation on 18 July and people all over the world set aside some time to honour the late former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.

This year’s Mandela Day was particularly impactful as it was the first since Mandela’s passing last year.

As part of its philanthropic and kind gesture, Weltevreden Park’s skills development and education institution, Open Learning Group (OLG), spent some time with children from Soweto.

“The Open Learning Group chose the Imizamo Yethu Kids Project/Caring Home in Soweto as its charity specifically for Mandela Day,” OLG’s public relations manager Cecile Doubell-Fourie explained.

“Volunteers from OLG visited the shelter, where about 30 children are fed and cared for on a daily basis. The day was marked by playing, dancing, singing; eating and sharing good stories about Mandela and what he meant to us and our country,” she said

Doubell-Fourie also thanked the children and caretakers from the Zondi 1-based home for the memorable day. What a memorable touching day.

Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95 on 5 December 2013 in his Houghton home after a long illness.
