Local beauty raises R30 000 for Cansa

LITTLE FALLS - Mrs South Africa finalist Riana Mooi hosted a successful high tea event for the Cancer Association of South Africa.

LITTLE FALLS – As it is required for her to raise funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) as part of her journey while vying to be crowned as the next Mrs South Africa, Little Falls resident Riana Mooi recently held a high tea event.

The 150 guests who attended the event made it possible for Mooi to raise R30 000 for Cansa.

The money came from ticket sales, pledges and donations.

“The event was a tremendous success. The hard work I put into the event paid off,” said Mooi.

Funds donated to Cansa assist in enabling research, educating the public and providing support to all people affected by cancer.

At the event, a tribute was paid to those who work with Cansa as well as those who have defeated the disease or who are still fighting cancer.

Guest speaker of the day was businesswoman Edith Venter, who is a long standing patron of Cansa.

Venter was once a winner of the Mariette Loots Friends for Life Achievement Award that is handed over in acknowledgement of, and deep admiration for, enduring commitment and dedication to positively promoting the quality of life of all cancer victims.

During her talk, she shared a touching recollection of losing her dad to cancer and of the work that she has done over the years, caring for and counselling cancer patients and their families.

In addition, she also shared her life story and explained how she gave up her social butterfly image for a high-tech laptop to take on the business world by storm.

“Her speech was moving, inspiring and motivating for all who attended the event,” explains Mooi.

Also at the event was top designer David Tlale, who showcased some of his latest designs.

Guests were also treated to complimentary treatments and pampering from Mangwanani African Day Spa, discounts on purchases from Honey Fashion Accessories – who also donated 20 percent of all sales made at the event to Cansa – and prizes sponsored by Skin Scripts, Brasilfit, Pure Motion Studios and Holsboer Vacations in association with Nedbank.

The next Mrs South Africa will be crowned on 8 August at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperor’s Palace.

Public votes can be cast via SMS to 35959 – simply SMS Riana Mooi to 35959 to vote. SMS costs R3. Multiple votes can be cast until the grand finale event.
