Buglars loot business premises

STRUBEN'S VALLEY - Burglars go on a rampage at a business centre.

STRUBEN’S VALLEY – Honeydew Police are on the lookout for suspects who allegedly broke into business premises in Struben’s Valley on 13 July. According to Candice Halstead, who is an Optometrist and Visual Therapist at Life Changing Strategist Centre, where the break-in occurred, the suspects could have gained access to the premises through the roof.

Halstead explains that on the morning of the incident, the alarm at the centre went off at around 5 am. “The reaction officer from the security company came and checked around and everything looked fine, wrote a report and left.”

The alarm kept on going off for the rest of the day and when reaction officers came, they could not find anything suspicious. Later on in the day, the owner of the premises then went to physically see what could be triggering the alarm. Upon entering the premises, the owner found office belongings lined up in the passage. “Computer screens, medicines, spectacles and some of the equipment were wrapped in blankets,” says Halstead, who believes the belongings were lined up and ready to be removed. “I think they were disturbed by the owner when he came in.”

The burglars made way without being identified. Among other things, they managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash, big printers and designer sunglasses that were part of the optometrist’s stock. They also helped themselves to the food that the staff had left in the fridge. Spokesperson for Honeydew Police Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said their detectives are investigating the case. “The fingerprints came out negative and we call on anyone with information that can help us trace the suspects to contact us.”
