Fans overjoyed at Lions’ presence in Westgate

Rugby fans made queues to have their photos taken with and regalia signed by the Golden Lions.

The Golden Lions rugby team graced shoppers with their presence over the weekend at Westgate Shopping Centre.

The Golden Lions and KayaFM served as an attraction and entertainment on Saturday 19 July, where the aim was to raise awareness for the South African National Blood Service (SANBS). Fans and shoppers were given the opportunity to take a photo with 7 of the 15 players and have it signed by their favourites.

A lot of fans also brought their personal Golden Lions regalia to have signed by their favourite sport stars. Tyron Hunter and his girlfriend Vicky Anderson had their flag signed while a dozen others had t-shirts, book covers and jackets signed.

“Today presented a golden opportunity for fans to both engage with their favourite sport stars and become aware of the needs that the blood service have,” said organiser Lara Doundolakis of ThreeSixOh.

“With pumping music to boot, who wouldn’t make a visit to their favourite team and donate some blood afterwards?

“It’s all for a good cause,” said Westgate marketing manager Dean Campbell.

Besides the official photo booth snapshots residents also proceeded to take fan photos with their own cameras and cellphones.
