The Dorcas Project soup kitchen benefited from the City’s Region C Mandela Day celebrations this year.

The soup kitchen is run by 26 volunteers and feeds close to 100 people a day. This often is their only meal for the day.

The soup kitchen is a joint community initiative run by St Barnabus Church, St Gabriels Anglican Church, Florida Methodist Church and St Micheals Anglican Church who rent the premises at 1 Dan Street from the City.

This year Region C got several of their departments and other sponsors to clean up the sidewalk, do building alterations, plant trees and supply foodstuff to the soup kitchen.

MMC for Transport Christine Walters made the opening address and was one of the first to get her hands dirty on the day.

This wonderful gesture by Region C was made possible by JRA, City Parks and Zoo, Joburg Water, Pikitup, Joburg Markets, Dorcas Aid, Citizen Relationships and Urban Management, Clover SA, Pick n Pay Crossings, Florida Park EMS and the NG Church Kloofendal.
