Businesses beware of con Caxton delivery man

The suspect pretends to deliver the Roodepoort record.

The residents and businesses are urged to be cautious of a man pretending to be a newspaper delivery man employed by Caxton Newspapers.

Earlier today (17 July) owner of the Moulding Shoppe on Ontdekkers Road, Peet Joubert was on his way out of his office when a man with a stack of Roodepoort record newspapers approached him. Joubert, who knows the record’s regular delivery man, wanted to know from the suspect where the regular delivery man was to which the suspect answered that he is off sick and that Caxton have employed him for the day. Just then the real Caxton delivery man came running around the corner. When the suspect tried to flee, numerous cellphones fell out of his pocket. A minor scuffle ensued between the suspect and the real delivery man but the suspect got away.

A while later Joubert noticed the suspect again with a stack of newspapers entering another business premises down the road.

The man was wearing a black Puma tracksuit with white stripes on the side. He also was wearing black gloves. According to Joubert the suspect is young and seemed like he was under the influence of some substance.

Caxton West Rand’s distribution manager Phillip Opperman says all delivery men wear red overalls with ‘Caxton’ printed on the back and he urges the public to steer clear of anyone saying they are employed by Caxton but is not wearing the uniform.
