Rhino Walk: To Midrand and beyond

Walking from Witpoortjie to Brits is no easy feat, but Myburgh perseveres.

After taking off from his home in Witpoortjie early this morning, Francois Myburgh (24) almost has reached Midrand.

He took on a 100km walk to raise awareness about rhino poaching and is completing his walk alone. On Monday, Pick n Pay Witpoortjie sponsored his energy drinks and food for the road. On his facebook page, Myburgh said that he arrived in Rosebank at around 9am this morning, “with 76 kilometres to go”. Myburgh set four days aside to complete the 100km walk. He arrived in Sandton at approximately 11am this morning and is continuing towards Midrand.

At around 3.15pm Myburgh told the record that he’s “about three kilometres outside Midrand”.

“It’s really fun and a big experience for me.

“A lot of people have been greeting me along the way and supporting my cause.”

Apparently other media groups also are following him on his route. Tonight he will sleep over in Midrand after which he will be taking off in Brits’ direction, his final destination.
