Mr SA finalist on a mission to win

RUIMSIG - Little Stars Nursery School lends a hand in Mr SA's journey as they assist him with a blanket drive.

Ruimsig resident Armand du Plessis is vying to be the most exceptional man fit for the coveted Mr South Africa title and says he enjoys the journey that allows him to do plenty of charity work.

As part of the journey, the contestants have been tasked to collect blankets which will be donated to the Salvation Army.

The 25-year-old final year LLB student of the University of Pretoria saw this as an opportunity to get the community involved.

He approached a number of schools in the area to help him with the collection and fortunately, Little Stars Nursery School saw this as an opportunity to instil the culture of giving in their pupils.

Owner and principal of the school, Lindy Crous said they recently held a sports day where a blanket donation served as an entrance fee.

“We received a positive response from parents. They all donated blankets and we are glad that we will be assisting those in need. We will also be helping a fellow community member in his journey as a Mr SA finalist,” said Crous.

Du Plessis is very excited about the journey and experience.

“Being a finalist has made me more open to do certain things that I have never done and never thought that I would ever do in my life,” he said, in reference to the blood donation drive that the Mr SA finalists were required to do.

In his own capacity, he has always been involved with a number of charities.

“I believe in assisting those in need.”

He has been working with charity organisations like the Teddy Bear Clinic.

The former Mr Krugersdorp and Mr Roodepoort says winning the competition will be a dream come true for him.

He said it took him years to prepare for it.

“This is a huge competition, you have to be 100 percent sure and thoroughly prepared when entering.”
