Declutter and donate this Mandela Day

The Childhood Cancer Foundation (Choc) asks locals to declutter and donate this July.

As every local organisation and charitable person gets ready to do their part on Mandela Day (18 July), the Childhood Cancer Foundation (Choc) asks residents to utilise the entire month.

“Do yourself, and Choc, a favour this month,” it states in a press release.

Choc wants residents to follow the principal of great interior design of ‘every time you remove something from your surroundings, you add class and style’.

“Decluttering is the name of our game,” writes Charmaine du Plessis on behalf of Choc.

“Are too many books weighing down your bookshelves? Do you have an ornament that doesn’t excite you? Or clothing you haven’t worn in years? If you have kitchen items you never use or games and toys that nobody plays with anymore, declutter and donate.”

Du Plessis says that knowing how Nelson Mandela felt about children, residents donating unwanted items or monetarily to Choc will continue his legacy of love.

Choc is dedicated to helping children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases by providing practical, moral and mental support from the initial diagnosis.

Donations to Choc can be dropped off either at the Charity Shop or at Choc’s head office at 152 Bram Fischer Drive in Randburg. In the case of bulk items or group donations, Choc can collect by prior arrangment.

A worthy alternative:

If you don’t have much to donate right now or already have done your decluttering, spend your 67 Mandela Day minutes to browse through the Choc Charity Shop at 219 Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove. Otherwise, spend your minutes creating a collection drive and encourage others you know to clean out their closets.
