Stolen vehicle recovered in Witpoortjie

A policeman from Lenasia follows a stolen vehicle's trail to Witpoortjie.

The Roodepoort and Lenasia police had a good story to tell last Tuesday (1 July) when a stolen vehicle was recovered.

Warrant officer Lebese, who is stationed in Lenasia, followed a trail of information on a stolen vehicle all the way to Witpoortjie, Roodepoort. In casual attire and an unmarked vehicle Lebese and Seargent Moncho arrived in Muizenberg Street at around 1pm. There, their suspicions were confirmed — a silver Mercedes AMG stood in the driveway of the specified house. The Roodepoort police arrived as backup.

“The Mercedes was reported stolen in Garankuwa, Pretoria, in 2012 and a case was opened.

“It’s been a long and sticky investigation to get here,” Lebese said on scene.

He had arranged to have the vehicle impounded in Lenasia and is quite excited to contact the original owners with the good news. The supposed owner of the stolen vehicle had allegedly passed away a few weeks ago, and the woman staying at the house claims not to have known of the vehicle’s history.

“Our investigation will continue to see if her story checks out and she will be dealt with accordingly,” Lebese said.
