Bicycle thief caught on CCTV camera

The thief knew exactly where the bicycle was, says owner.

On 13 June a thief entered André van Jaarsveld’s premises and stole his son’s bicycle with the determination of someone who knew exactly where his loot was.

The thief was caught on close circuit television (CCTV) cameras and by his demeanour and modus operandi it seems like he knew where the bicycle was. The bicycle could not be seen from the street.

In the footage the thief is wearing what looks like a security guard’s uniform with writing on the back. Van Jaarsveld is convinced that it is someone who is privy to information regarding the properties in the area, which can only be accessed through a boom gate with security guards. Another fact that disturbs Van Jaarsveld is a rolled up old newspaper that was left in front of his house in a peculiar matter the day before the theft. Van Jaarsveld believes this was an indicator for the thief as to which house he must target.

According to him the police has agreed that the man in the footage probably a security guard.

A case of theft has been opened at the Roodepoort Police Station.

If anyone recognises the man in the footage or know the whereabouts of the green and white Raleigh bicycle they can contact Van Jaarsveld on 011 764 2473.
