Eskom has announced yesterday (18 June) that it will continue with its ‘state of emergency’.
The utility warns that if electricity use during peak times (5pm to 9pm) does not decrease, it will be forced to implement its rotational load shedding schedule.
Currently the use of electricity is in excess of 36 000 MW during peak times, which the grid can not sustain.
Residents are asked to save at least 10 per cent of electricity by switching of non-essential appliances during peak times.
Should Eskom implement its load shedding schedule the Roodepoort area will be affected on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 2pm.
It is expected that Eskom will lift the emergency tomorrow (20 June) as demand decreases towards the weekend.
