GDE wishes pupils well in mid-year exams

Department promises smooth sailing.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) wished the thousands of Grade 8 to 12 pupils from 470 schools in the province the best of luck for the mid-year exams that had started recently.

“More than 400 schools in the province have been prioritised as needing additional support and tuition. As of 6 June pupils in these schools write common examination papers set at a provincial level in selected subjects,” Phumla Sekonyane, spokesperson for the GDE confirmed.

“The mid-year examinations are very important in that they serve as a practice session for pupils to experience the examination conditions that they will face at the end of the year,” she added.

“The department would like to wish pupils from schools that are not categorised as priority schools and not required to write common examinations well as they also will be writing their mid-year examinations.”

Sekonyane promised that all systems were in place at these schools to ensure that the examinations run smoothly.

“The department has set up teams in all 15 districts to monitor that schools comply with the requirements set for these examinations.”
