Recovering addicts celebrated in Montclare

My yesterday is gone and my tomorrow is before me, say recovering addicts.

Patients from Light House on the Horizon celebrated sobriety with a graduation ceremony last Sunday (1 June).

Light House on the Horizon is a rehabilitation centre founded by Dr Nazeem Abrahams in 2004 and it is situated in Wilro Park. Alongside fairly new patients who celebrated sobriety of a few weeks, ex-patients also graduated at the ceremony at the Danie van Zyl Recreation Centre in Montclare on Sunday.

“These are some of my very first patients,” Abrahams says about Aurelio Rava and Imoeraan Schroeder who both received certificates for being sober longer than 10 years. He is proud of all the patients, he says, being an addict in recovery himself.

“I’ve been sober for 14 years now. That’s the reason behind starting Light House in the first place – initiating recovery in others.”

Abrahams invited Bishop Delton Adams from the Harvestine Dome Church to address the proud families on Sunday.

“I never will look back – my yesterday is gone and my tomorrow is before me,” Adams says as an encouragement. He believes that giving the patients and ex-patients recognition for their sobriety achievements will encourage them to continue making better choices.
