100km walk to raise funds for rhinos

WITPOORTJIE - Francois Myburgh will take on a 100km walk to campaign against rhino poaching.

A Witpoortjie resident will embark on a 100km walk from 8 to 11 July to raise funds for South African rhinos.

Francois Myburgh, managing director of World Wide Entertainers and Arts and Crafts said, he would like to do this on behalf of the South African Rhinos and all the animals in our world. “Firstly, proceeds will go to the rhinos, and I plan to do this annually to help take care of other animals as well,” said Myburgh.

He is concerned that there might not be any rhinos left in the next five to 10 years due to poaching.

“I want to donate this money to the Kruger National Park so that they can build proper structures for the safekeeping and protection of the rhinos,” he said. Myburgh added that he would like the walk to be a bi-annual (twice a year) project. He said those who wish to join him in the next walk are welcome to do so.

“I will start off my first day from Witpoortjie toward Midrand and finish in Brits. My aim is to raise at least R100 000.

“I am against poaching and I will unite against poaching as this is a cruel death to these animals. This matter must be seen as a serious crime like murder and these poachers must be sentenced to life imprisonement,” Myburgh concluded.
