The Kings School West Rand’s Science Club showed off their skills on 17 May when they competed in the CO2 Dragster Challenge hosted by the University of Johannesburg.
The teams had to build small, light and aerodynamic cars, powered by CO2 canisters, to race against other schools from around Joburg. They also had to prepare a 10-minute presentation about the design principles and science behind their cars.
“The race was divided into three classes, according to the mass of the dragsters,” Kings School principal Ken Langley informed. “The all-girls team consisting of Anika Meyer, Tabo Kalima and Naledi Mokua took the honours in Class C for dragsters with a mass of over 100g with their car called ‘Unstoppable’. I want to congratulate the pupils on the achievement.”
