Hospital staff receive special recognition

RADIOKOP – Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital held an award ceremony to recognise the staff's star performance.

Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital rewarded and gave special recognition of outstanding staff performances by hosting an award ceremony.

The main objective of the awards, according to the hospital manager Andiswa Sidwaba, was to encourage loyalty, increase retention and overall employee morale.

“We also aimed at reinforcing desired behaviours, motivate high performance and create a culture of recognition as well as a positive work environment,” she added.

Sidwaba said the hospital wants to support a culture of performance excellence.

“All permanent employees were eligible. These are quarterly awards and the criteria are based on customer excellence, role model or professionalism, representative and special recognition.”

Sidwaba explained that all nominations were reviewed by the rewards and recognition committee.

“The committee looked for extraordinary performances, something that is beyond the staff member’s job description. Also, staff members were evaluated through their performance expectations, initiatives or original ideas which they came up with themselves and working a lot of extra hours over a significant period of time. The staff ’s action had to benefit the hospital,” she elaborated.

Sidwaba also mentioned that the hospital was among the hospitals that entered for the Bio-oil Florence Nightingale award and staff nurse Zandile Ntombela won.

“Staff at the hospital had to nominate a co-worker that they felt had the same characteristics as Florence Nightingale, such as compassion, passion and caring for others,” Sidwaba informed.

Ntombela said she was very excited to have won the award.

Hospital manager, Jacques de Klerk said he was moved by the staff members’ beyond-the-call-of-duty performances.

“It was fantastic that we can award our staff. Also, it was a small way of saying thank you to them. We know we have very good and competent staff,” he added.
