Children learn through playing

LITTLE FALLS - Fantasy and imaginative play are some of the building blocks of a child's intellectual and creative ability, according to Trinityhouse Pre-Primary principal Lynn van Jaarsveld.

Trinityhouse Pre-Primary Little Falls used imaginative play to stimulate the minds of preschool pupils during a role play session.

Lynn van Jaarsveld, principal at Trinityhouse Pre-Primary in Little Falls said, “Fantasy and imaginative play are building blocks of children’s intellectual and creative ability. It interlinks reality and fantasy where a child learns to visualise a goal, and or perhaps think about how they could have approached different scenarios in a particular situation. It also teaches them to ask questions, explore their environments and form friendships.”

She also said, it adds to character building by giving the pupils the opportunity to use their imagination freely.

“This week’s lesson of imaginative play have created great fun with pretending cooks, dressing up and role playing. As a child’s daily routine is more structured and scheduled, parents can support their children’s imaginative play, knowing that much will be learned and gained,” Van Jaarsveld concluded.
