Domestic brutally raped and assaulted

Police takes hours to come out and do not investigate the scene.

A domestic worker was raped and assaulted brutally in Withaak Street yesterday (19 May).

Although only one suspect was seen Noeleen Schoeman who is the worker’s employer believes there were more than one person involved.

The suspect/s entered the house at approximately 9am. One of them overpowered the domestic worker and tied her up with shoelaces and a belt in the garage. He then raped her and assaulted her with a piece of gym equipment, smashing her teeth in. In the meanwhile the other suspect or suspects ransacked the house. While raping her the suspect kept on threatening the woman that he was going to kill her when they were finished.

Schoeman’s husband and the gardener, Darius Sello, arrived an hour later and it is believed that they surprised the suspects.

The suspect involved in the rape casually came walking past Schoeman’s husband, informing him that he was a friend of the maid who visited and was on his way out. Only on entering the garage they realised what had taken place, but it was too late.

Netcare 911 was quickly on the scene and took the woman to Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital where they – and not the SAPS – advised the staff to do a rape test.

Schoeman says that although the Krugersdorp Police was very helpful she is disappointed by the service of the Roodepoort Police.

They allegedly arrived at the scene more than three hours later and did not investigate the scene.

The Krugersdorp Police transferred the case to Roodepoort Police Station.

Schoeman calls on residents in the area to be alert and to make their domestic workers aware of this incident.
