Man and woman injured in bike-vehicle collision

Motorbike driver's leg seriously damaged.

A man travelling on a delivery bike sustained serious injuries following a collision with a motor vehicle at the corner of Azalea Avenue and CR Swart Road next to the Roodekruin Veterinary Clinic yesterday.

Eyewitnesses say the accident occurred just before 5pm. It is believed that the man was travelling along CR Swart towards Wilgerood Road when he crashed into the motor vehicle. Angry bystanders believe that a minibus taxi was involved as they are in the habit of dropping off and picking up people at stop streets, thereby obscuring the view of motorists.

ER24 and Netcare 911 paramedics as well as metro police soon arrived at the scene only to find the man lying in the road alongside pieces of his bike. He had sustained severe injuries to his leg and was treated on scene for some time before he was transported to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the motor vehicle, believed to be a woman, sustained minor injuries and also was transported to hospital.

The exact cause of the accident will be investigated by police.
