Knights in blue armour go all out to fight crime

HONEYDEW – Police arrested 26 suspects during an operation on 16 May

Hundreds of law enforcement officers proved the Honeydew Cluster Police’s dedication in fighting crime.

On 16 May the police, together with Metro Police, had a huge operation in all areas covered by the Honeydew Cluster Police.

Addressing the officers at Roodepoort Traffic Department just before their operation at 8am, Honeydew Cluster Commander Major-General Oswald Reddy gave strict orders to officers, telling them to achieve maximum success in the operation.

He instructed them to confiscate illegal firearms, drugs, counterfeit DVDs and liquor. He added that they should set up road blocks in strategic places in accordance with Metro Police to search for those with traffic law contraventions.

“Anything and everything that moves in and around our areas must be searched, be it a moving car or person.”

Reddy advised the police to be on the lookout for stolen property, especially suspicious vehicles – referring to the recent recorded number of stolen vehicles at different police stations. “Use all your resources in order to get fruitful results,” he continued. “We want to make ourselves visible everywhere so that the criminals know we are out there, and the public knows we are here to protect them.”

According to Reddy, this was one of the routine operations they conducted from time to time to increase police visibility, including roadblocks, patrols and random searches.

“We want the community to work with us by keeping their eyes and ears open. Report suspicious vehicles and persons to us and share information with the police,” Reddy urged.

The operation proved fruitful, with the following successes recorded by the Honeydew Cluster Police when the operation concluded at 2pm:

  • One arrest for possession of stolen vehicle
  • Nine arrests for possession of substance
  • Three people arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms
