Witpoortjie house robbery: Case opened

Woman forced into the house and tied up – cellphone and vehicle stolen.

After a house robbery in Adam Tas Street on Thursday, 15 May, a case was opened.

Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo said a house robbery case was opened and no suspects have been arrested yet.

“We still are investigating the matter.”

Contrary to previous accounts Annatjie Nel, 58, was injured during the robbery. According to daughter Jackie Nel her mother had bruises on her face and arms. The robbers had tied her up with neckties after forcing her into the house. They proceeded to steal the rings from her fingers as well as her cellphone. They then stole Jackie’s champagne-coloured Mazda Etude, registration number NWY 221 GP, from the driveway.

“I am actually surprised that they didn’t take any electronics from the house,” Jackie said.

“I think the robbery was planned around stealing the vehicle.”

Both Jackie and her father were at work at the time of the robbery. Jackie said fingerprints had been taken during the afternoon. Police had recovered one of the rings from the garden and handed it over to the victim.
