Joint forces chase housebreaker away

WILGEHEUWEL - A joint-effort ensures that house robbery foils.

A joint community effort prevented an alleged housebreaker from escaping with his loot.

At about 2pm on 15 May, Danmar Security reacted to an alarm at one of their client’s complex home in Wilgeheuwel.

The reacting officer found the alleged housebreaker in the client’s home and about to leave with a plasma TV. A chase ensued on foot after the alleged housebreaker jumped over the fence and made way toward the greenbelt area.

Eyewitness Eugene Haricharan said he and his employees from Autoglaze had just finished cleaning carpets at a client’s home, when they noticed the guard running in the greenbelt area. “We approached him and asked him what the problem was, and he told us he was chasing a suspect,” Haricharan recalled.

Haricharan immediately called Honeydew Police and Londoloza Security who he both applauded for their prompt response. “Within minutes, there were eight Londoloza Security response cars, Honeydew Police came, and a police helicopter also assisted in the search for the suspect.”

An intensive search began throughout the greenbelt area, leading to the closure of a few streets around Wilgeheuwel.

Though the suspect was not apprehended, Haricharan said a clear message was sent to the alleged criminal. “I don’t think he’ll ever come back to this suburb. He will even tell his other friends that there is no place for criminals in Wilgeheuwel.”

Londoloza Security manager Jonno Rudolph explained that they received a call from their client Haricharan – hence their involvement. Rudolph said their tactical team worked together with police and the guard from Danmar Security, because they believe crime prevention should be a joint effort.

“It should not be about competition and whether the break-in is at your client’s place.”

Spokesperson for Honeydew Police Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said they always appreciate the assistance they receive from different security companies operating in the Honeydew precinct.
