Dowry warns community after another house burglary

"They are watching your every move."

Dowry security as well as the Helderkloof Blockwatch warn residents to take extra care following the most recent house burglary in the area.

On Tuesday 6 May at approximately 11am, an unknown number of suspects managed to gain entrance to a house in Helderkruin while the owners were at work.

According to Dowry Reaction Manager, Bruce Webster, “It seems as if the suspects entered the premises by lifting the main gate (remote controlled), then broke down the security gate at the front door and kicked open the door.”

The owner of the house who wishes to remain anonymous confirmed that he had no alarm system in place at the time of the burglary nor does he currently have a domestic worker employed.

Webster continues, “The suspects then made their way through the house and in the process helped themselves to a television set and electronics. They entered the main bedroom, targeting the safe. Once they managed to break it open, they took passports, identity documents, spare keys, jewelery and a firearm.”

The owner found it strange that the criminals knew exactly where the safe was. He also told the record that his wife was notified of the burglary from a neighbour who spotted the suspects at their house.

After stealing items in the house, the suspects drove off with the belongings in the silver Prado belonging to the owner.

The vehicle later recovered by Tracker in Soweto.

The owner also informed the record that the incident happened just two days after he and his wife returned from a one-week holiday. He believes that the criminals kept an eye on their every move.

It also was the first incident of burglary at their house in the seven years they lived at the house and first time at the house since 1984, according to previous family members.

“This street and area is usually quiet; we never have had trouble here. I have no idea why they would target us.”

Webster pleads to the community to be extra vigilant as this was the second incident of its kind in one day.

“Please change your routine daily. Criminals are watching you and taking note of your every move. They knock you when we are most vulnerable. Dowry, the Helderkloof Blockwatch as well as the Roodepoort SAPS are working close together to make the area safe.”

Should you live in the area and notice anything strange or suspicious, contact Garry (Helderkloof Blockwatch) on 072 518 3289, Dowry’s Bruce on 081 353 5496 or the police on 10111. The suspects are still at large.
