Four injured in robbery in Florida

Police arrested all three suspects.

At least four people suffered minor to serious injuries following a violent business robbery in Florida this past weekend.

According to Florida SAPS spokesperson Captain Lydia Dikolomela, “At approximately 4.15pm on Saturday 3 May three suspects, pretending to be customers entered a store at the corner of New Canada and Main Reef Road in the Highgate area.

“It is alleged that suddenly one of the suspects pulled out a 9mm pistol (Lorcin) and ordered everyone to lie down.

“The suspects then demanded cash and keys to the safe, and took cash from the till and placed it inside bags.

“In the process, four employees as well as customers were assaulted. Three people sustained minor injuries while a woman suffered severe injuries.

“Fortunately, quick response by Florida police led to the arrest of the three suspects on the scene. Police managed to recover the firearm as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.

“It is further alleged that the pistol used in the business robbery was reported stolen in 1999.

“The three suspects, aged between 26 and 34 were detained at Florida Police Station and will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon, facing a charge of business robbery.”
