The Economic Freedom Fighters look set to gain at least six seats in parliament in the 2014 general elections. Thus far, 49 percent of the national votes have been counted and the party has garnered 318 332 votes, which translates to 4.61 percent. This is according to the latest update released by the Independent Electoral Commission at 10:51am.
As it is estimated, roughly 50 000 votes are needed to secure a seat in parliament, meaning that the EFF can be guaranteed six seats thus far. EFF votes by province are:
Mpumalanga: 55 784
Gauteng: 47 237
Limpopo: 45 353
North West: 40 983
Free State: 27 007
Nationally, the EFF is placed at number three, after the African National Congress and the Democratic Alliance, at number one and two respectively. This is the first time the EFF competes in the general elections, since its inception in 2013.
