Four arrests linked to illicit cigarettes and hijacking

Young men charged with two crimes.

Florida Police had a major breakthrough recently when they arrested four suspects involved in hijacking a vehicle and smuggling illicit cigarettes.

The four men, aged between 21 and 27 will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon as they face charges of hijacking and being in possession of stolen property.

Florida SAPS spokesperson Captain Lydia Dikolomela explains that, “Early on Friday morning 25 April, the suspects had hijacked a company vehicle in Strubens Valley before they allegedly offloaded boxes of cigarettes into the bakkie they originally travelled in.

“On a mission to hunt down the suspects, security personnel spotted a suspicious-looking bakkie at the corner of Ontdekkers Road and Golf Club Terrace in Florida. On the police’s arrival at the scene they found that security guards (unknown to the record at this stage) had apprehended the suspects

“These arrests led to the arrest of two other suspects who also were involved during the hijacking.”
