Detective secures harsh sentence

HONEYDEW - Long hours of investigations by Honeydew Police detective puts three men behind bars.

Three men accused of murder and robbery Honeydew business man, almost two years ago, have been sentenced to jail. The suspects were sentenced to 20 years for murder and another 15 years for robbery and were declared unfit to possess a firearm. The sentence is a results of the efforts of one of the youngest detectives at Honeydew police station, Constable Llewellyn Zitha.

According to spokesperson for Honeydew Police, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, almost two years ago, the suspects entered the premises in Honeydew pretending to be customers.

They then produced a firearm and pointed it at the business owner, demanding cash.

The suspects fired four shots. One of these fatally wounded the business owner (41). They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, a DVD player and set of speakers.

“A case of murder and robbery was opened and the detective appointed to the case started tracing the suspects and three suspects were arrested,” explained Jacobs.

She added that Zitha, the detective who handled the case, worked around the clock to ensure that the suspects were not granted bail.

“Constable Zitha is one of the youngest detectives at the Honeydew Detective Services. He is always willing to walk an extra mile.The Honeydew SAPS is privilege to have a detective of his calibre at the Detective Services,” Jacobs said proudly.
